July 2017

July has some good things, and some bad things, but I did learn a lot about myself this month. Some things I learned to like, some I learned to let go. So I guess let’s get started!

HUMAN RESOURCES SUCK

I am currently in a business HR class this term, and let me tell you how much this class sucks ass and is basically a common sense class that should be called “How to NOT be a shitty person”. I’m not kidding, it’s completely easy, which I am grateful for, as my other class is quite difficult and taxing. However, what is so striking about it is the fact that what we are having to read, out of a widely used college textbook I might add, is basically just telling you to be nice to each other and act like an adult. I was under the impression that this was just a given. Seriously. From the time we are born we are(at least SHOULD) be taught how to be respectful and courteous to our fellow man, even if we don’t agree with them. Opinions are a good thing, as long as you respect someone else’s even when it differs from your own. Don’t be a culturist or racist fucktard. I mean, basic concepts of how to live. Has our society as a whole become so self-centered that even adults need to be taught the world doesn’t revolve around them?

KNOCKOFFS ARE SOMETIMES GREAT

I love love LOVE Pureology brand haircare, however the price doesn’t love me! I decided to finally just break down and try a knockoff. Now, normally I’m one of those people that doesn’t trust store brands, however I took my bottle of Pureology and a bottle of Suave Professionals Biotin, and the ingredients were exactly the same, and even in the same order. That being said, it was the same exact shampoo so I bought it to at least try. If it sucked, well, I only paid $6 USD total for shampoo and conditioner. My hair feels just as healythy, smells the same, and I’ve noticed no difference even after 2 weeks. I WILL be buying from now on! Every once in a while give “cheapy” brands a chance, because sometimes it’s a great way to save!

MONTHLY FAVOURITES LIST

  • BareMinerals Translucent Powder Duo– I paid $20 for this from a friend, as she accidentally bought 2 of them. They are $40 brand new from retailers and boutiques. One side is a matte finish, while the other is a glowy finish. I’ve only been able to use it about twice now, as I don’t currently have a brush(thanks to my kiddos puppy) and hate wasting it. There’s a substantial amount of powder in both, and from the little use I’ve gotten I feel like it was at least worth the $20 I spent. Definitely my new fave finishing powder. Even my large pores looked non-existent.
  • Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb The Antioxidant Super Moisturizer– Holy crap. I love this stuff. I have had terrible experience with garnier products, and the only reason I even tried it was because I got a free sample and ran out of moisturizer. I use it because it’s extremely hydrating, but not so much so my skin is oily. I liked it well enough to buy a full sized jar, and still have no complaints!
  • Yes To Tomatoes! Charcoal Bar– Definitely still using this baby! I swear I’ll never go buy another soap as long as I live(unless Shea Moisture ever makes mine again) My skin is overall clearer, looks healthier, and I do feel much better using this as it’s completely natural. It is a tad drying so following up with lotion is important, but well worth the benefit of using it.
  • Jane Eyre– I honestly cannot even imagine how many times I have read this book. I still completely love it, always will. In all honesty, it is one of my favourite books ever written, despite it’s slow story progression. I’ve always been rather apt to read classic literature over newly written materials. Meaning I used to enjoy most of those boring books from AP English lol

All in all this month was pretty unimpressive, and hot. It’s been completely terrible weather-wise.

  • PiYo, and Tea, and Heat…oh my!

Well, for starters, I finally got the tea thing figured out. I’m still drinking that DeTox tea, but start my day off with a blueberry tea first. Honestly it helps me feel fresh. That’s important because for the last 2 months I’ve woken up just groggy, achy, and feeling like shit. I also confess I haven’t even been getting up out of bed until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, and not going to bed until 5 or 6 am…I hate it honestly. I WISH I could have a normal schedule again, and have been fighting for one, because I hate feeling like I’ve wasted my day.

So as it stands, starting next week I’m going to be slowly trying to get my wake-up time to around 8 or 9am, and in bed no later than midnight. Not only will that help once Emma starts school(in a year), but also I feel like since David doesn’t get up until noon most days the mornings can be “me time” which I desperately need! I also have a friend who recently moved to Oregon, and said as she lives pretty far from any cities she wanted a low impact-high results workout, and has tried PiYo for the last couple of months and highly enjoys it. I’m going to use my office to be a little “me zone” for my time to decompress.

That means PiYo for me as well as tea a few times throughout the day. I’m trying to nix fizzy drinks period as they’re completely terrible for yo anyhow! If I can adjust well, I’ll definitely give you guys some sort of thoughts on this PiYo thing after trying it. Oh! I also discovered I really really like almonds, so along with the blueberry tea I’ve taken to almonds(dry roasted, no salt) and low sugar craisins for breakfast. I’m trying to also cut the carbs for a while, but having an issue with the fact I rarely eat meat unless it’s chicken, of which I haven’t been in the mood for.

I also scratched my glasses. Went with hubby out for a patrol around the property the other night, and since the polaris ranger is in the repair shop we took the 4 wheeler…You can just imagine what happened to my glasses when he stopped fast to avoid *shudder* a tarantula. For those of you not familiar with Texas, the wildlife and plants try to fucking kill you. You can run them over and they still survive, so best to just avoid them if you can. It was a whole lot of ‘nope!’ and turning around, but my glasses got ran over in the process of flailing. I thought they were gone forever, and I’d have to suffer with blindness, but David found them this evening. Still in one piece, but scuffed up pretty bad. Hopefully I can find some sort of fix for at least most of the scratch because it’s really bugging me.

It’s been extremely humid, and hot(well over 100 still) and one of my dogs ran off the other day. We looked everywhere for her, and finally had to come back inside after an hour because I needed some water and to cool off. When we stepped back out, she was covered in mud just laying on the porch, tail wagging, and while I was glad to see her safe it took all of my patience to not scream and cry. I definitely hate the heat with a burning(pun intended) passion. I guess one good thing about this heat is the grass and weeds aren’t growing overly fast for once!

Well…At the very least this blog post has been about as scattered and disorganised as my brain this week, so apologies, and I hope you stuck it out this long lol.

    Of Tea and Makeup

Never over-steep tea with cinnamon in it

I have been getting desperate with this weight loss thing. However, the Vitex I’ve been taking for my lady issues has certainly helped with my thyroid. I’ve noticed an increase in metabolism, and while I haven’t noticed a change in the scale numbers, I’ve noticed I’m down a pants size. So definitely counting it as a small wind. Lately, however, I’ve tried detox tea by a brand called Yogi(I have the DeTox box), and it’s definitely strong WITHOUT letting it steep too long. This time however, I let the dogs out and let them run too long, come back in and while my tea was still hot, it was *ackhem* very strong in cinnamon.

I gulped too much, and thought I was going to die, with my throat on fire. David nearly died laughing, and at the time I didn’t think it was too funny. I actually think my throat is still burning, lol. I’ve heard tea detoxes are okay, but not more than for a day or two, so I think I might try that. I suppose the only reason I’m so obsessed with it as of late is that I’ll be 27 soon, and well, the last 4 years have gained too much weight and don’t want to be one of “those” moms. The dirty looks in public are also pretty depressing, especially concerning seeing people I went to high school with that still look great. With no effort, I might add, but some people are just blessed with good genes…I was not one of those people.

On a good note, however, I’ve noticed a SIGNIFICANT change in my face since using the bar soap I reviewed previously. I’ve taken to using the grapefruit in the morning, and the charcoal soap at night. I just follow with a moisturiser so I don’t dry out my skin. Still haven’t chosen a moisturiser, but that’s due to my amazing best friend giving me some samples of various kinds, lol. I’ve tried Shiseido and Olay Regenerist so far, and I have to say while the Shiseido is best, the olay isn’t terrible! Olay is just a bit too oily for my skin.

Another thing I’ll be signing up for to try this month is Boxycharm. I’ve heard very good things, and how as far as subscription boxes go they’re extremely highly rated. I used to have ipsy, but cancelled as I wasn’t satisfied in the slightest, and have not tried a “box” since then. However, one thing that stood out to be was the fact that they send full sized, high end products, and sometimes throw in a “bonus”. For instance, next month all subscribers get a Tarte full-sized palette next month. For $21/month I won’t complain! I hope I enjoy it as it’s one of the few luxuries I get in life haha.

One more thing I must include, because I’m rather proud of myself, but I passed my first term of classes with flying colours! I’ve started another term already, and am in a fast track programme, so I’ll be rather busy for the next two years, but hell, it’s worth it!

REVIEW: “Yes To…” Brand…and other updates

Hello everyone! I apologise for anyone following my previous posts. I am an airhead at times and somehow managed to delete half my website…oops! That aside, I have a review for you guys. You know I am always complaining about never being able to find a skincare regimen that works. Either it’s too drying, too greasy, ect.

For those of you who have combination skin, I have a suggestion for you, and better yet it is a “drugstore” brand! This brand is called “Yes To…” and I’ll be reviewing two of their products. I purchased mine at a WalMart Supercenter here in the US, but for my foreign readers, there is a website for their products as well as being sold on amazon.com. I am a big fan of this brand, as it is almost completely organic and has no parabens, sulfates, or sulfites, and uses 98% natural ingredients in all their products. It’s actually good quality for less than a lot of premium brands I’ve tried.

    Yes to Grapefruit Face Wash-$9.99USD

This is called Yes To Grapefruit Correct and Repair daily face wash. It is made with lemon balm, and grapefruit extracts. It has small exfoliating beads that help to keep the dirt and grime away, as well as clean black heads. It also claims to restore elasticity and radiance as well as even skin tone. Personally, I have noticed clearer skin, a more firm feeling and my skin tone is evening out a bit, so I can say that at least for my personal use this is true. I also have noticed that my pores are appearing smaller, and my face oil is definitely diminishing. It is great for daily use, and has had no drying effect those I use it twice daily.
Overall I would recommend this for those of you with oily, or combination skin.
    RATING: 9/10

Yes to Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar-$5.99USD

Yes to Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar is a bar soap that, as stated is an activated charcoal soap bar. Unlike most bar soaps, this one is not slimy or perfumed heavily. I normally am not a bar soap user, however, I’ll be using this one for the foreseeable future. I have had this bar for well over 2 weeks, use it daily and not only is my skin softer, cleaner, and healthier looking, the bar itself looks barely used. It will last you quite a long time. It claims to be 98% natural ingredients, with active charcoal to scrub out impurities and leave skin healthier. I can attest that it at least mostly lives up to these claims. It can also be used for your face if you have blackhead issues, or live somewhere prone to high temperatures and dirt(like me!)
The only issue I have with the bar itself is the fact that as it is glycerin and charcoal, it does leave you literally “squeaky” clean. I’d use it last in bathing, and follow with your favourite body moisturiser. Overall, I’ll be using this product frequently, and have completely replaced my body wash with this.
    RATING: 8.9/10

I’m still working on finding a good moisturiser, but these two products have made a permanent home in my beauty regimen. Also, I’ll have some pictures at a later date, but I let the kiddo pick out a hair colour for me, and she picked burgundy. I’m waiting for it to fade down a little, because it came out almost completely black o.O
Also FINALLY figured out what I’ll be doing for ComicCon this year, provided I can ever find a good substitution for blades(hubby has suggested PVC in place of the blades since metal is not allowed in any form) I believe we are going to go for Attack on Titan scout regiment uniform for me, and garrison regiment uniform for him. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted as the outfit comes along!
This month has been pretty crazy, honestly. In a good way for the most part though. I passed my classes with acceptable grades. It kept me busy most days, on top of work. This heat is killing me with being over 100 degrees already. It always gets up in that range, but usually not until mid-late July, and it started early June this year. If you believe old-wives tales that means we will have an exceptionally cold winter, though and that would definitely make me happy!
I’m going to buy the Kat Von D Alchemy Palette as well as a new Tarte Palette with my next pay period, so I’ll review those for you guys too as soon as they come in. Until next time!

DO you have a favourite brand, or just whatever works?
